A green oasis in the middle of the city. A beautiful place full of exotic and rare plants. A place where you can admire vanilla or pepper tree or simply get lost in the middle of the green jungle. Hortus Botanicus. It was founded in 1638 by the city of Amsterdam to mainly serve as a herb garden for doctors and apothecaries. Believe it or not but it contains more than 6.000 tropical and indigenous trees and plants. The amazing hexagonal pavilion dates back to the late 1600s and the beautiful entrance gate was built in the early 1700s.
If you’re visiting Amsterdam it’s really worth taking a break from the city buzz and wander among the green paradise :)
